Visual Merchandising Guide - Coffee Shop Wall

An impactful, stylish display is the perfect way to enhance surroundings, showcase products and encourage customers to dwell longer and engage with your brand.

For customers with a coffee shop or soft seating area, this boxwood mat wall with floral ‘swoosh’ is a great way to entice customers in, create interest and, as a photo worthy backdrop, can help increase your social media following and brand visibility. Quick and relatively simple to construct, this installation can be used in a variety of spaces and can be adapted to meet your requirements. Here is our step-by-step guide to help you to create your own version:

Step 1

Fix insulation board to the wall area you are using. We recommend using a depth of at least 750mm to allow stems to be fed in and remain stable.

Step 2

Attach boxwood mats to the area. This can be done with floristry wire, long German mossing pins or a long staple gun. The boxwood matting should only be attached to the area where it is going to be seen and the space where the floral swoosh is going to be (top and right-hand side on our demonstration) should be left uncovered.

Step 3

Start to apply a base of green foliage. We have used a mixture of ferns, amaranthus and long leaf eucalyptus. Keep going until there is ample coverage, although it does not need to completely cover the area as some room needs to be left for all the flowers. Try to avoid clumping the same item together and ensure that it is well spaced out.

Step 4

Next start to add in your flowers. Start with the larger headed stems ensuring that you space evenly and randomly (so they are not all in a line). We have hydrangeas, peonies and wisteria as the focal flowers. The wisteria has been positioned to fall naturally and spill over the boxwood to create an organic feel.

Step 5

Smaller headed flowers and additional foliage can now be added. Again, space evenly, remembering to take a few steps back from your creation at regular intervals to get a better perspective of how it is looking. We used poppies and hellebores.
