Floralsilk will be exhibiting at the Harrogate Trade Christmas Gift Fair – where you’ve been able to find us for over ten years! – but if you’re curious as to what goes into the impressive display you get to experience, we’re offering a little behind the scenes look…
A huge amount of work that goes into our awe-inspiring Christmas displays is takes place throughout the year leading up to it. Whether that’s an analysis of data on products that have become especially popular, keeping a finger on the pulse of trends and changes in shopping habits, or compiling feedback of what trade customers would like more or less of – we’re always at the forefront, reacting to needs, wishes, and wants, and building our next collection with that in mind. Once we’re confident we’ve got everything we need, it’s a case of seeing potential products, and assessing quality, and so the process of forming our collections begins.
This year, we've a record over 1,500 brand new pieces, sorted into beautiful decorating themes - making it easy for buyers to explore, and find exactly the right products.
The excitement lies, of course, with seeing the products altogether for the first time, and in December we begin arranging our beautiful new Christmas collections, as well as our Autumn and floral, recategorising products that fit perfectly, and building our fabulous showroom.
For new lines, like our tree skirts for example, we create custom displays so that they can be easily seen, and each of our collections has something that embodies the story the theme tells, showing you some of the pieces contained within. From custom bauble-adorned snowmen to match-girl shop fronts, it’s our own chance to see the displays brought to life for the first time.
Throughout December, we welcome trade customers into our showroom to get an early look at everything we have to offer – a sneak peek ahead of the fair, but a different pace too, where wholesale customers can take their time and find their favourites amidst our new lines. The next step is to transport all of the exciting aspects of the showroom over to the trade fair itself. That involves a lot of very careful packaging, some very clear instructions, and many, many boxes, all secured and sent off to their new temporary home a the Harrogate Convention Centre.
Once at the trade fair, our next action is to recreate the beautiful displays of our showroom – plus a few more for fun! - in the halls of the convention centre. Turning a blank space into a full installation, ready for our customers to walk through and experience everything we have to offer, feels like a little Christmas magic in itself, especially when there’s so much to see and do. By the time it’s all built and ready for the first day, you’ll find it hard to believe it wasn’t always there.
