Research has proven time and time again that adding nature into your environment can have calming, positive effects on your emotional health. Yet, this can be tricky to achieve in office spaces, where there’s limited natural light, inconsistent opportunity to water them, and other restrictions. Workspaces can often feel impersonal, with similar colours and setups, and often need to remain a professional-looking area.
Faux plants, trees, and artificial flowers are the ultimate way to get the best of both worlds – a bright, vibrant, inspiring space, with little to no upkeep, looking professional and fantastic at all times. So, which plants work best for you? When you’re looking for something to brighten up your desk space, a hanging plant may not be your first port of call, but there are some real benefits to opting for one. Firstly, these save space on your desk or surrounding area, meaning you can prioritise things that need to be in quick reach for your everyday work. Secondly, they expand your working space, so that you’re making the most of all available space, which can help prevent you from feeling closed in. And thirdly, they invite you to look up at them – which prevents you from staring at your screen for too long! We love both our string of pearls for this, as well as our hanging potted fern. Using either (or both!) will add some healthy greenery to your workspace in seconds.
The easiest of all additions to your work environment, artificial office plants are low-maintenance, maximum impact. Pick up a pot, tweak the branches to their perfect potential, pop it onto your desk and voila! Beautiful greenery, zero effort. We’ve always found classic plants, like ferns, calatheas, and succulents to be especially popular in working environments, and of course, we have a full rangae of these, in different shades of green, and offering different textures. We also have a range of flowering plants, so if you’re looking for more colour options, or a statement artificial plant, these are available too.
If you’ve got a larger space to fill, looking at faux trees can be a great way to do it. It remains just as easy to do as placing a pot on your desk, but it is arguably even more impactful. It’s worth considering these too if you have a standing desk – as greenery you experience from both when you’re sat at your desk, and stood at full height, is more beneficial than alone. Aspects to consider when you’re looking at trees for your office are greatly related to the space that you have. Will it sit on the floor, on desks, or on a shelf of some kind? The height of your ceilings will make it feel either larger or smaller. Something like the faux olive tree (available in three sizes) offers foliage at the top, but if your goal is to fill the space, you can benefit from something like our philodendron or areca palms, which have large, bouncy branches.
Of course, while plants are the go-to for offices, that’s historically been due to their longevity and the fact that they’re a little more robust – able to weather longer without watering, less in need of specific sunlight and temperature conditions. When buying faux, however, that need is removed – leaving to free to decorate how you wish!
Love Peonies? Consider a beautiful bouquet of them so you can see them every day. Want big impact? Try hydrangeas with their brilliant blooms. Create your own from stems in our collection, take inspiration from our hand-built versions, or even pick up preassembled bouquets and arrangements across our site. Doing so means you can add extra colour into your eyeline. There’s no reason not to have your favourites surrounding you!
Whilst there’s very little maintenance needed for artificial plants, a few things can help them look their best. When they first arrive, be sure to bend and move the stems as much as needed for them to look their best. Whilst they don’t need regular maintenance, you can remove dust or residue with a gentle wipe with a microfibre cloth or dust – or blow them with a hairdryer on a cool setting, or a low setting on a vacuum cleaner. Be conscious of them in direct sunlight to keep them from fading. For a quick improvement to your working space, there’s no better choice than our realistic range of artificial plants and trees – find this and more, at Floralsilk.
