Eucalyptus is a timeless classic, and one that has proven its popularity all year round. Whether it’s quietly boosting Christmas bouquets or setting the scene for a fabulous new year, it adds a boost of colour in foliage to anywhere it’s placed. With a range of soft tones, it suits both natural and bold palettes, and our faux eucalyptus offers you a choice of the perfect colour for exactly what you need it for. Our artificial eucalyptus has been a best seller for years, and with no maintenance or upkeep, it’s no surprise!
A planted Eucalyptus is a perfect choice for immediate styling. Need to brighten up the home office? Add a small faux eucalyptus in a pot . Need to make more of a statement in the bathroom? Try a large artificial eucalyptus in a pot . They work with almost any colour scheme, require almost no maintenance, and are the easiest way to add warmth and calm to a room without additional effort.
Single eucalyptus stems, alone or combined, are the most versatile. Artificial Eucalyptus can hold its own in an arrangement, meaning you can place a single stem for a statement piece in a beautiful vase. Equally, it also adds beautiful foliage to existing bouquets or floral arrangements, whether you’re using the classic shaped eucalyptus, or it’s long leaf or trailing variant. Essentially, you can use eucalyptus stems in any are you might use florals – remembering that by opting for artificial eucalyptus, that also means you can pop them in low light areas, or hard to reach places too.
Eucalyptus has a range of colours in its natural state, but the most recognisable is the muted green, a tone which compliments a vast number of schemes - especially in nature.
The classic eucalyptus offers small button style leaves that offer a scattering of greenery to any placement. You’ll most likely use this within existing arrangements as a perfect background to make the florals pop, but it works really well on its own to add natural colouring to the home too – bringing the outside in, in a mess free way.
If you love the shape of Eucalyptus, but want to be a little bolder with your arrangements, add in a different coloured Eucalyptus spray. Changing these can make the florals feel more seasonal – whether it’s adding a metallic spray to a wintery arrangement, or a burgundy eucalyptus spray to an autumnal one. Foliage often offers a backdrop for the focal flowers, but that’s no reason for them to be mere backgrounds!
Although we’ve focused mostly on interior options for your home using faux eucalyptus, artificial eucalyptus works just as well outside. We love adding it to a hanging basket for extra colour… with the added bonus of our faux outdoor trailing eucalyptus being UV resistant (ensure any faux products you choose include this if you intend for them to be used outside), so you get all of the benefit of low-maintenance eucalyptus, but for your garden!
The size of your arrangement will be dependent on how large your vase opening is, and how loose you want the floral or foliage arrangement to be. A larger vase will require more stems, and a smaller will offer a more compact look. These kind of arrangements work all year round, adding a boost of natural greenery to your house – and you can even add seasonal additions (metallic eucalyptus or coloured stems for example) to change the feel of the arrangement without requiring a complete change.
For example, we combine our Eva Glazed Pottery Vase 31cm with 11 stems of Eucalyptus for the perfect full foliage evergreen look.
Perhaps the most common use of Eucalyptus as foliage is often within artificial flower arrangements, providing a perfect support to the bigger florals. We love pairing it with large blooms, letting the eucalyptus provide a base colour, and the vivid colours come from the larger flowers. Using faux eucalyptus adds structure and texture, and whilst it works well with any flower, hydrangeas, peonies, and roses are our favourites to use.
We’ve got tips available on creating a full arrangement, but place your flowers within your vase at differing heights, and add in artificial eucalyptus and foliage afterwards, interspersing the colours. Be sure to let it spread – eucalyptus can help to add height and fullness to the arrangement, and this helps the arrangement feel more natural too.
When working with faux stems, you can either cut the stems to height, or, where the vase is opaque, you can simply bend them. Remember that differing heights and sizes feel more natural, and that nature has no straight lines – don’t be afraid to move your arrangement around until you’re happy with it.
