Enjoy the Retro Revival
Not only does every Christmas bring with it memories of those before it, but now people are making considered design choices that embrace the retro and vintage feel of decorations and ornaments, tastefully placed for maximum impact.
There’s always a touch of the vintage about glass baubles, where once, all baubles were decadently made of glass, but now they’re available in all shapes. From classic baubles and finials, to the personal, moulded glass tractors, books, or even glass sweet shaped ornaments – because of course, Christmas needs a box of chocolates - however you enjoy retro, there’s plenty of ways to share it at Christmas.
Or perhaps it’s recognising the place of traditional decorations – don’t miss our large standing Santa evoking that beautiful retro Christmas feeling, building memories year after year.
Going bold – you think Christmas is about red and green? It’s so much more this year! The trends are showing a definitive move into richer, deeper hues, from burgundy to deep navy, emerald to sapphire. Whilst they’re not specifically mimicking jewels, they offer the same level of luxury and finery by association, and are one way to make your home feel like it belongs in the pages of a magazine.
If you want another twist on the creative colours showing up this year, adding in some metallics will see you both on trend, and looking extra premium. Although you may associate Christmas with silver (and admittedly, we love the effect of these silver butterflies on the Christmas tree) and gold, by blending other shades of metallic colours with traditional options, we’re feeling much more contemporary. The benefit of using metallics in your tree of course, is that your lights and other colours reflect in them beautifully, allowing you to say less is more.
Bows are back – as if they ever left! – and the trend of adding beautiful coloured bows to your festive décor is bigger than ever. Adorn your tree with perfectly placed bows, which not only add a beautiful aesthetic, but draw your eye to them. Whether you prefer traditional velvet, or a set of gingham bows, whether you place them around your home or your tree, finishing your décor with a bow on top will always be a winning combination.

…and Christmas Bells!
Another classic returns, the humble bell. Bells used to be used to call folk inside, although now they would have us believe that hearing them demonstrates your true belief in the magic of Christmas. With that lovely thought, it’s no surprise we’re seeing more and more of them appear in décor, whether it’s in garlands of bells, hanging ornaments for your wall, or simply a bell for your tree.
When better to embrace luxury than at Christmas? Velvet certainly does that, and we’ve seen a growing trend of velvet based decorations making their way into people’s homes. Of course, you could embrace this with baubles for your Christmas tree, like our velvet glass Haley bauble, opt for a traditional but fancy faux velvet poinsettia, or merge the two – our deluxe velvet ball spray works perfectly in a vase, or placed within your tree.
It’s always felt like a timeless material, but with the combination of trends for colours and for bows, there’s no better time to opt for velvet. A touch of luxury, and a sprinkle of warmth – and you’ll find the perfect addition within our range.
Trends always consist of contrasting opinions, and away from the big statement colours and luxury materials we’ve discussed already in this list, is opting for a more natural style Christmas. Using more muted colours and tones, which merrily compliment each other, and or opting for more natural looking textures, you can let your impact be seen with beautiful natural elements as seen in our Faux Fresh Cedar Garland.
Sustainability goes beyond a trend, and many of us are seeking more sustainable choices and options in all parts of our lives. It’s likely this has contributed to the increase in interest in wooden decorations, including the popularity specifically of Scandi Christmas décor, as well as felt decorations too, which have become ever more popular each year.
We’re proud to have introduced a range of sustainably produced artificial flowers that are available all year round, but if you’re considering adding florals to your Christmas décor, the longevity of our Christmas Bouquets (new in this year, and absolutely stunning), at the premium high quality they represent, mean that over the years you’re reducing your footprint. That, and our full range of sustainable Christmas decorations that use our FSC Paper decorations- like our paper velvet star! - all mark a trend for this year that will continue for many more.
At Floralsilk we specialise in Christmas, so your festive season is in good hands! Don't miss our full collection, where you can look your best no matter which trend you choose.
