Your Guide to Buying the Perfect Christmas Tree

Published: 21/10/2025

A Christmas tree is a stunning focal point of any room in the festive season, and so choosing the correct one can be a little daunting. After all, you’re not likely to buy them too frequently, and getting the right one the first time is a must. So what do you need to consider when searching for your perfect Christmas tree?

How Much Space Do You Have?

Assessing the space for your Christmas tree is as much about space as it is height. Of course, you won’t want to select a 9ft Christmas tree if you have the UK average ceiling height of 8ft, which is an easy decision to make, but how big can you go?

A general rule is looking at about a foot beneath the height of your ceiling as being the tallest Christmas tree you should consider. That way, when you add your tree topper to it, or add a little extra height with your tree skirt, the tree never feels too big for the room.

Of course, you should then consider where you’re going to be placing it. If it’s going to live on the kitchen side, a smaller tree, perhaps in a pot, might be a better option. If it’s going in a large open space, you may want to consider a wider tree.

What kind of tree suits you?

Should you pick a real Christmas tree, or an artificial tree? There are pros and cons to both.

Real trees provide that Christmas scent, they mean that your tree will look different every single year, and they are disposed of, rather than stored, each year.

On the other hand, Artificial Trees are consistent year after year, and in themselves, are less likely to have gaps or unusual branches, making it easier to decorate. You have the ability to bend and tweak individual branches, altering their position around your Christmas baubles, too. There’s also much less in the way of clean up – no need to vacuum up pine needles with an artificial tree!

We love an artificial Christmas tree here at Floralsilk, where our premium realistic range promises quality year after year. A well-dressed artificial tree will make your guests ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhh’ every festive season.

What budget are you working to?

Artificial Christmas trees can be an investment, because you’re bringing them back out year after year. For the festive season every year, you’ll both see it and expect your guests to, so it makes sense to understand your budget for this purchase, considering you’ll only need to buy it once.

Knowing a budget can help you pick between sizes when you’re unsure, or different options available – pre-lit or unlit? In a pot or not? – and so figuring this out early on can help guide you to the right tree.

What Style Suits Your Home Décor?

Christmas trees can look very different from one another, and our range of artificial Christmas trees suits a full range of styles. For example, if a frosted tree suits your signature style, we have a range of sizes available with those. If you prefer a traditional pine look, our English Pine range is perfect for you. Prefer a thick, bushy tree? Try our Burghley Christmas Tree range. This is especially important to consider if you already have décor you want to tie it in with – existing wreaths or garlands, for example, or colour schemes in your Christmas ornaments.

Is the quality good?

At Floralsilk, all of our premium Christmas trees are carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. Looking realistic, full, and luxurious, we’re confident in answering a resounding yes when within our range. However, when buying a Christmas tree, you should always consider if it looks to match the quality promised – remember, you’re going to see it every single year, so investing in the right one now will see your future self thanking you.
